42ft Sailboat

Zulu is a custom designed 42 foot sloop, built at Jespersen Boat Builders in Sidney, British Columbia, made of cold molded wood. It was designed as a performance cruiser. The electrical system was designed to do long distance cruising and for ease of use. The D.C. system includes a large house battery bank, isolated start battery, high output alternator (100 amps) with external Ample Power regulator. The A.C. system includes hot water tank, 20 amp battery charger, 500 watt salon heater, and GFCI protected outlets.

The Nav Station is a simple layout with a built-in computer for navigation and home office duties. BEP meters are used to monitor the D.C. systems, tank levels and propane system. The custom designed Circuit Panel has the D.C. circuit breakers, exterior lighting control, bilge pump control, VHF, stereo and computer DVD built-in.

Lighting in Zulu is very important to the owner. He wanted a lot of light inside and out. He also wanted fixtures that were modern and would stand up and look beautiful for years to come. We chose Cantalupi lights from Italy. Other features include 3 way dimmable lighting in the salon, wall mounted switches for all the overhead lights and cockpit sole lights including an under boom light.

A Raymarine electronics package was installed and includes wind, depth, speed, 4 kw radar, GPS, autopilot, graphic multi display and a 8î color monitor in the cockpit. The Raymarine system is networked to the shipís computer which has Nobeltec navigation software.

The house batteries in Zulu are Meridian AGM sealed 12v batteries. There is almost 500 amp hours of storage capacity. They are stored in a locker under the salon settee to keep the weight low and in the center of the boat. All the main fusing is also done in the locker.
